Last Breath Rachel Caine. Our customer reviews This is the second book in The Morganville Vampires series. The previous book had ended on a huge cliffhanger and this book picked straight up where the other had left off, with Claire and her friends being in a sticky situation that I just couldn’t see them getting out of!

This book explained all about Shane’s past and told us the reason why his father had such a grudge against the vampires, it also revealed a gruesome fact about Michael which made me feel even more sorry for him. Claire was a lot more confident this time around, this was great for the reader but not so great for her because it meant that she ended up in even more dangerous situations. The story was full of danger and throughout the book she seemed to go from one disaster to the next, all of which had me on the edge of my seat in suspense.

When Shane found himself in a life threatening situation everyone else rallied round to try to save him, this resulted in many more worrying moments for them all, including an evil party and a surprising turn of events which saw Monica the bad girl from book one relying on Claire for help! I have to admit that I did quite enjoy that part.

The introduction of Sam a vampire was very interesting because it showed that not all the vampires in this story were bad and it also gave a little insight into the mysterious world of the founding vampire Amelie. I’m hoping to see more of him in the books to come. A fantastic twist later on in the story saw Michael changing his role in the house and I’m excited to see what the future holds for him.

Another one day read that was captivating and exciting, already I’m completely enthralled by this series. Michael is dead and Shane’s dad, Frank, has turned up with his biker gang, itching to kill some vampires. Killing vamps in Morganville is not a good idea.

The Dead Girls’ Dance

The story follows the conflict between Frank and the vampire community, with Shane getting caught up in the middle of everything and Claire and Eve doing everything they can to ensure girlw house mate’s safety. While I really enjoyed the first book of this series, I found this one even better as there was more excitement, drama and action – where as Glass Houses had to spend a fair amount of time introducing the characters and how the town works and everything. The characters continue to develop nicely, with Claire becoming more confident and mature throughout.

One of the things I really like about this series is the vampires. There’s no mushy don’t-feed-on-blood nonsense going on or anything like that. They’re proper vampires; they burn in the sunlight although the really old ones can build up some kind of immunitythey like power and will happily kill.

I also like that the boundaries between good and bad blur a fair amount. There’s vamps with good intentions and there’s humans who are just as bad as the vamps. It’s really well done. The romance is dealt with fantastically. Dande it wouldn’t be a YA Urban Fantasy book without some but it’s not the whole plot. It doesn’t take over and it’s not all angsty – although not without its difficulties. Claire doesn’t fall madly in love with Shane at first sight.

Edad get to know each other and then realise they like each other. I thought the sex issue was dealt with really well, finding a good compromise between the Claire being to innocent to even think of it and all out pouncing on each other.

The Dead Girls’ Dance by Rachel Caine

It added another dimension to their relationship. I’m now really looking forward to reading the next book, and the rest of the series. More True Blood that Twilight. Just as good as the first book. The four characters are now a family -in more ways than one- and operate as a whole. The element of romance is introduced.
